== Abstract  ==

Topic: '''OOR Metadata Workshop-V: Crosswalk between [[OMV]] & [[CTS2]], and other relevant work by the [[NIH]]/[[NCI]]-[[ORWG]]'''

Folks from the NIH/NCI-ORWG team will be presenting results from their crosswalk between OMV and CTS2 exercise, as well as other pertinent work relating to metadata.

In particular, see ...

HaroldSolbrig's recent mapping of [[OMV]] to [[CTS2]]; where the results can be found at: http://informatics.mayo.edu/cts2/index.php/CTS2_and_OMV
Harold referred to an analysis Stuart Turner had done examining whether <nowiki>RxNorm</nowiki> (as specific instance of a terminology) actually has the metadata as outlined by OMV and that analysis is at: https://wiki.nci.nih.gov/display/VCDE/OMV+Metadata+for+RxNorm

== Agenda Ideas  ==
After the presentation from the [[ORWG]] team, we will have an open discussion to compare notes and insights on various aspects of metadata as related to their use in ontology repositories.

''please insert any additional items below (along with your name for follow-up purposes)''
[[SherriDeCoronado]] has mapped [[NCBO]] to [[OMV]] to OMV+ (the ontology representation working group's ([[ORWG]]'s) ad hoc, temporary name for the version/extension to OMV), which can be found at: https://wiki.nci.nih.gov/pages/viewpage.action?pageId=53020090

you please - I'll capture that into the attendees roster later.

[[JamesOdell|James Odell]]: OK

[[DeanAllemang|Dean Allemang]]: Darn! My call just dropped. I was interested in understanding how CTS2 versions works

with OWL2 versioning. The call dropped while he was explaining this.

[[PeterYim|Peter P. Yim]]: on slide#55 [9:31am PST]

[[DeanAllemang|Dean Allemang]]: I made it back in a minute later, but that was too late for this discussion

[[PeterYim|Peter P. Yim]]: @Dean - we'll have some time for Q&A and open discussion

[[DeanAllemang|Dean Allemang]]: that's right

[[DeanAllemang|Dean Allemang]]: and those versions are all related together according to the OWL2 standard?

[[DeanAllemang|Dean Allemang]]: that's right

[[DeanAllemang|Dean Allemang]]: even in production, that can be a problem

[[DeanAllemang|Dean Allemang]]: thanks

[[ToddSchneider|Todd Schneider]]: A question: How did use of REST help?

[[HaroldSolbrig|Harold Solbrig]]: @Todd - identifying the resources, assigning identity, determining which

characteristics are key vs. accidental was one aspect.

[[HaroldSolbrig|Harold Solbrig]]: The second was the removal of dependencies - our earlier models had containment models

[[ToddSchneider|Todd Schneider]]: Harold, thank you.

[[HaroldSolbrig|Harold Solbrig]]: COde systems "contained" definitions. REST made us refactor into "Class describedInVersion"

[[HaroldSolbrig|Harold Solbrig]]: Especially important as in the Semantic Web world, Class to ontologyVersion is n..m

[[ToddSchneider|Todd Schneider]]: Harold, could you remind me of the definition of 'code system'?

[[MyCoyne]]: Where do I get Sherri's presentation, please?

[[HaroldSolbrig|Harold Solbrig]]: Code set, classification system, thesaurus, ontology, glossary

[[MikeBennett|Mike Bennett]]: With terminology you've also got the whole ISO 1087 / SBVR world of terms.

[[HaroldSolbrig|Harold Solbrig]]: @Todd - some people use "Ontology" to represent all of those things, but then you

need a different term for small "ontology"

* see [http://ontolog.cim3.net/cgi-bin/wiki.pl?OOR/ConferenceCall_2012_01_10#nid30Z7 above]
[[ToddSchneider|Todd Schneider]]: Harold, how would you see CTS2 fitting into the OOR architecture?

* welcome and intro of new member(s) (if applicable)
[[HaroldSolbrig|Harold Solbrig]]: The number of things that I don't understand is infinite.

3. Status Review and Discussion:
[[ToddSchneider|Todd Schneider]]: Harold, you have a start - a rough metric

* '''Review and update our "Most Critical Task(s) At Hand" list''' ...(''we will skip this stock agenda item at today's call.)''
[[HaroldSolbrig|Harold Solbrig]]: CTS2 could serve as one of the REST (and, perhaps SOAP) API's to allow federation and sharing.

[[ToddSchneider|Todd Schneider]]: A goal of the OOR architecture is provide a specification (in the sense that Harold described).
** Todd will champion OOR by injecting it into any track where it makes sense ... also by way of NCOIC involvement
** Mike will support (technically, especially by way of the socop-oor instance) Nancy and Gary in the collaborative SOCoP-INTEROP / Summit workshop that Nancy is spearheading

Abstract

Topic: OOR Metadata Workshop-V: Crosswalk between OMV & CTS2, and other relevant work by the NIH/NCI-ORWG

Folks from the NIH/NCI-ORWG team will be presenting results from their crosswalk between OMV and CTS2 exercise, as well as other pertinent work relating to metadata.

In particular, see ...

HaroldSolbrig's recent mapping of OMV to CTS2; where the results can be found at: http://informatics.mayo.edu/cts2/index.php/CTS2_and_OMV Harold referred to an analysis Stuart Turner had done examining whether RxNorm (as specific instance of a terminology) actually has the metadata as outlined by OMV and that analysis is at: https://wiki.nci.nih.gov/display/VCDE/OMV+Metadata+for+RxNorm

After the presentation from the ORWG team, we will have an open discussion to compare notes and insights on various aspects of metadata as related to their use in ontology repositories.

SherriDeCoronado has mapped NCBO to OMV to OMV+ (the ontology representation working group's (ORWG's) ad hoc, temporary name for the version/extension to OMV), which can be found at: https://wiki.nci.nih.gov/pages/viewpage.action?pageId=53020090

anonymous morphed into Dean Allemang

Michael Grüninger: Note that we are now on slide 21 (not 26 as Harold just said)

Peter P. Yim: @MyCoyne - please post (on this chat space) the names of people who are with you now, if

you please - I'll capture that into the attendees roster later.

James Odell: OK

Dean Allemang: Darn! My call just dropped. I was interested in understanding how CTS2 versions works

with OWL2 versioning. The call dropped while he was explaining this.

Peter P. Yim: @Dean - hope you can call back in

Peter P. Yim: on slide#54 now

Peter P. Yim: on slide#55 [9:31am PST]

Dean Allemang: I made it back in a minute later, but that was too late for this discussion

Peter P. Yim: @Dean - we'll have some time for Q&A and open discussion

Dean Allemang: that's right

Dean Allemang: and those versions are all related together according to the OWL2 standard?

Dean Allemang: that's right

Dean Allemang: even in production, that can be a problem

Dean Allemang: thanks

Todd Schneider: A question: How did use of REST help?

Harold Solbrig: @Todd - identifying the resources, assigning identity, determining which

characteristics are key vs. accidental was one aspect.

Harold Solbrig: The second was the removal of dependencies - our earlier models had containment models

Todd Schneider: Harold, thank you.

Harold Solbrig: COde systems "contained" definitions. REST made us refactor into "Class describedInVersion"

Harold Solbrig: Especially important as in the Semantic Web world, Class to ontologyVersion is n..m

Todd Schneider: Harold, could you remind me of the definition of 'code system'?

MyCoyne: Where do I get Sherri's presentation, please?

Harold Solbrig: Code set, classification system, thesaurus, ontology, glossary

Mike Bennett: With terminology you've also got the whole ISO 1087 / SBVR world of terms.

Harold Solbrig: @Todd - some people use "Ontology" to represent all of those things, but then you

need a different term for small "ontology"

Todd Schneider: Harold, got it. Short memory span.

Peter P. Yim: @MyCoyne - Sherri doesn't have slides, she is introducing the ORWG and their work - see:

https://wiki.nci.nih.gov/display/VCDE/Ontology+Representation+WG

Todd Schneider: Some people don't understand many things.

Todd Schneider: Harold, how would you see CTS2 fitting into the OOR architecture?

Harold Solbrig: The number of things that I don't understand is infinite.

Todd Schneider: Harold, you have a start - a rough metric

Harold Solbrig: CTS2 could serve as one of the REST (and, perhaps SOAP) API's to allow federation and sharing.

Harold Solbrig: The advantage being that you don't necessarily HAVE to absorb everything.

Harold Solbrig: You can reference other catalogs elsewhere on the net.

Todd Schneider: Ken, do you see using something like CTS2 as part of the workflow engine?

Todd Schneider: A goal of the OOR architecture is provide a specification (in the sense that Harold described).

Todd Schneider: Harold, did I understand you correctly that the CTS2 specification is not publicly

available yet?

Harold Solbrig: @Todd - public. Available from the OMG site or the CTS2 URL I sent. Again, a bit

opaque and being clarified...

DeborahMacPherson: Great Presentation! Got a lot from it - thanks - need to take off for another

conference call.

Ken Baclawski: @Todd - it is not part of the workflow engine. The workflow engine is configurable so

it should be possible to specify CTS2 as one possible workflow.

Todd Schneider: We should consider the use of CTS2 in the OOR for terminology mediation.

Todd Schneider: Harold, thank you for an excellent presentation. Have to go.

Harold Solbrig: Thanks. I'm going to have to go in about 2 minutes as well.

Peter P. Yim: great session, thanks everyone!

Mike Bennett: Thanks all!
