  • Nancy Wiegand / GaryBergCross - potential for collaboration

  • reports on member activities that are OOR-related
  • recap of the developers informal call on May-21
    • Peter: 9 people were at the call; intros; new update going into production on Jun-12; hold off real development work until that is in place
    • Michael: "ontology load manager"; OMV-based metadata ontology; Eclipse, myEclipse plugin; ruby-on-rail;
    • Misha: can provide more details if anyone needs them
    • Ken: web services; now only supporting REST;
  • Overview on UML diagrams of BioPortal systems
    • see: http://ontolog.cim3.net/cgi-bin/wiki.pl?OpenOntologyRepository_Architecture#nid1XRD
    • Todd: UML diagrams generated by "Enterprise Architect" ... will be posting the full set ...
    • Misha: the diagrams are complete; slightly difficult to read now -- some parts not 'relevant' to BioPortal could be removed to make it more readable; with the new update, a lot of changes coming in anyway as an ontology is being used
      • Misha will help provide a list of the 'relevent' subset of classes
    • Benjamin: MDA?
      • ... Todd: probably stick with UML now, and eventually move to CL?
    • Peter / Todd: will add revision level onto the diagrams in the future ... the ones from before, we'll add a date for identification purposes
  • Introducing the software development folks'
    • Misha: lead web architect for NCBO, writing codes too ...
    • Benjamin: main NCBO contacts - Mark Musen: PI; Misha Dorf: main technical contact, especially on code; Natasha Noy: key contact on requirements
      • after Jun-12 update release, will create a *branch* for OOR;
      • Benjamin leaving for a industrial position after Jun-3; we wish him all the best and hope he continues to stay on the OOR project which is open to all
    • Darren: starting Master program under Michael Grüninger; will be working on the piece to add CL / FOL capability
    • Bart: will be engaged in OOR; ontology mapping; ruby-on-rail experience; in Toronto and can connect up with Gruninger's team easily
    • discussion: process / policy
    • Mike / Benjamin / Peter: will take the process / policy over email ... try to tie the initial process down before Jun-12
      • Misha will talk to Natasha - poosibly provide us with the existing BioPortal process; and we can build out from there
    • possibly setting up a regular sync-up call schedule for the developers
      • Peter: suggestion - when development work is in full steam, maybe we can do regular Friday calls, alternating between the OOR-team and OOR-dev-team
    • Bart: how does one get involved with contributing to code development work
      • Peter: get subscribed to the [oor-dev] list and stay tuned - real coding work isn't starting until after the next BioPortal release is out
      • Benjamin: in the mean time, read up on: http://www.bioontology.org/wiki/index.php/NCBO-OOR_Development
      • Mike / Benjamin: the subversion repository is read-only to the general public, therefore, feel free to look over the code
  • Potential for collaboration with the geospatial ontology folks - Nancy Wiegand / GaryBergCross
    • Nancy: intro; SOCoP - submitting a grant proposal to NSF again; possibility of using OOR for their work
    • Gary: intro - SOCoP secretary; use of ontology repository for interoperability, social aspect of sharing;
    • Mike: welcome the collaboration; probably some additional features needed to support geospatial ontologies
      • Nancy: how much development is expected?
    • K: how much data will be involved .. using data.gov?
      • Gary: possibly using some USGS data (K: which is already linked to data.gov)
    • Nancy: supporting data store ... or just ontologies
    • Todd: OOR not supposed to provide data store ... but can consider a extension project to work on
    • Nancy: is the infrastructure stable ... and expected to be around for many years?
      • Mike: the intent is "Yes!"
    • Gary: Nancy is the PI; proposal due in July;
    • Ken: already has a grant ... can share some of the language used ... Nancy will contact Ken
  • Progress review on planned OOR-related events:
  • Joint OOR-Ontolog Panel sessions ... on deck:
    • Peter (2009.05.15): I'm working with the Stanford-BMIR folks to possibly run an session to update everyone on recent changes and improvements on Protege / webProtege / BioPortal / CODS / OOR-sandbox ... and how they work together, now and in the near future ... this is more a OOR user and content providers' session and could go right before Benjamin's OOR implementers and developers' session - date needs to be rescheduled to July-2009
    • panel session on "BioPortal-based ontology repository implementation and development" - champion: BenjaminDai - date needs to be rescheduled to July-2009

    • Peter / Ken: Natasha Noy has also submitted a related proposal ... Natasha and Ken has since been in contact and they feel both proposals are complementary
    • Ken / 2009.05.29 - our proposal has been turned down - reason: "no room"
      • Ken / Mike: if Natasha's get accepted maybe we can horn OOR in (by submitting a paper to her workshop)
  • OOR sandbox instance - status review - http://oor-01.cim3.net
    • see above
    • as well as the two upcoming panel sessions.
    • Peter to Benjamin: besides myself (Peter), are the BioPortal developers receiving these error messages that are coming out of the OOR-01 sandbox? ... (we configured the sandbox to route its error notifications to <oor01-sys[at]cim3.net>, which, for the time being, is forwarded to Peter)
      • Benjamin: I'll try to find out ... please forward me some of the typical error messages as a reference
