- General Suggestions:
- Scheduled Events:
- Scheduled Discussions
- Next discussion scheduled for 06.30 to space around guest speaker
- BillMcCarthy to lead the discussion
- Proposed topic: Service Sciences (web services, service-oriented architectures, marketing, for profit). Economy is focusing on exchange of services, not products, raising concerns that too much e-commerce focused on products, not services. Ontological implications are unclear and should be explored. "Marketing Myopia" article in Harvard Business Review that relates marketing of products and services. Bill and Bob both have references which can be posted to orient participants and launch discussion. Often the purpose of a service is unclear and/or may not apply to the desired reuse context.
- Notes
- David: maybe we should designate a moderator, and then coordinate the event from there, in a fashion similar to speaker events.
- see: Ontolog Discussion
- more work/discussion on OWL
- Adam: need OWL & SWRL for OWL ontologies to really be useful
- Nicolas: becoming clear that discussions on reasoning would be useful
- Nicolas: Grit and Denker at SRI has just release a OWL/S editor for Protege-OWL - having them come to join in the discussion will be great
- Next discussion scheduled for 06.30 to space around guest speaker

8) Project work session / discussion
- No activity at this meeting
9) New project proposals
- Kurt Conrad commented on text formatting problems; text formatting is dark science.
- Nicolas Rouquette and KurkConrad commented on the need of a calendar management function on the ontolog wiki.
- suggestion: wiki/ontolog editor plugin
- Is it possible to use the Eclipse wiki editor plugin for editing the ontolog wiki pages?
- It would be great if it is possible to make this a user preference as an alternate solution to the current editor. The current editor is particularly annoying because it lacks vertical resizing to maximize the use of the browser window real estate.
- suggestion: ontolog calendar & ontolog's internal ontology project
- How about using some of the techniques discussed here: http://esw.w3.org/topic/EventDiscovery to use ontology-assisted event search across the ontolog wiki to compile a calendar that shows the user a "projection" of all of the events found in the ontological search of the ontolog forum.
- Twiki support for calendar here: http://tikiwiki.org/tiki-listpages.php?find=meeting+calendar&search=find&sort_mode=pageName_asc
- For example, we could define a "meeting call" projection that would filter out events related to some notion of what a "meeting call" is, e.g., invited speakers, scheduled discussions, discussions on other related groups like the semantic web best practices', sciop, etc...
- For example, if I want to know what are the upcoming technical discussions but I don't know what is the term used for referring to such meetings, then I should be able to type: "technical discussion meeting", type "show calendar" and, using SUMO's definition of the words I typed, search for synonyms that correspond to pre-defined calendar projections -- eg., "scheduled technical discussion" in this case as the "most likely" match, and perhaps other possible matches as well. Then, ask the user to select one of the pre-defined calendar projections or ask the user to use an advanced calendar projection to build his/her own projection criteria.
- It would be especially neat if we could "package" this mechanism as a kind of "tutorial/example" of an "ontology-enhanced" application capability (brought to you by yours truly, ontolog)
