OpenOntologyRepository: OOR Development Workshop-VII - Tue 2012_02_28     (1)

This is our 7th OOR-dev workshop, which is devoted to the topic of how we should be organized to getting real OOR-related open source software development work going. Specifically, we shall use this session to compare notes on the initial experience of various sub-team trying to make a first attempt on adding code to the existing BioPortal codebase.     (1A)

Topic: "Getting OOR Development Going - Take VII"     (1B)

Session Chair: KenBaclawski     (1C)

  • Shared-screen support (VNC session), if applicable, will be started 5 minutes before the call at: http://vnc2.cim3.net:5800/     (1D6)
    • view-only password: "ontolog"     (1D6A)
    • if you plan to be logging into this shared-screen option (which the speaker may be navigating), and you are not familiar with the process, please try to call in 5 minutes before the start of the session so that we can work out the connection logistics. Help on this will generally not be available once the presentation starts.     (1D6B)

  • Please note that this session may be recorded, and if so, the audio archive is expected to be made available as open content, along with the proceedings of the call to our community membership and the public at-large under our prevailing open IPR policy.     (1D9)

  • Expecting:     (1F2)
    • ... if you are coming to the meeting, please add your name above (plus your affiliation, if you aren't already a member of the community) above, or e-mail <peter.yim@cim3.com> so that we can reserve enough resources to support everyone's participation. ...     (1F3A)

Agenda Ideas     (1G)

please insert any additional items below (along with your name for follow-up purposes)     (1G1)

    • (for the next call) differentiating the various instances     (1G2A)
  • Michael Grüninger: [announce] the Bremen group's plan to use a set of student projects to implement some OOR functionality     (1G3)
  • comparing notes on the first attempts to add code/tab to the BioPortal codebase     (1G4)
  • Getting us to a stage when we can run a OOR-production box     (1G5)
  • planning and coordination on upcoming OOR events     (1G6)
  • ... (for this or next call) discussion: justifying "oor.net"     (1G7)

Agenda & Proceedings     (1H)

1. Meeting called to order:     (1H4)

2. Roll Call:     (1H8)

3. Status Review and Discussion:     (1H11)

4. Key items for review and discussion today     (1H13)

  • Michael Grüninger: [announce] the Bremen group's plan to use a set of student projects to implement some OOR functionality     (1H13B)
    • TillMossakowski's course - students doing some rapid prototype ... they are starting a google-doc on this (which they will share with us soon) ... note that this is independent of the OntoIOp work.     (1H13B1)
    • OntoIOp project will look towards working with OOR as discussed in this ISO WG's recent (2012.02.23) Berlin meeting.     (1H13B2)
  • Getting us to a stage when we can run a OOR-production box     (1H13D)
  • ... (for this or next call) discussion: justifying "oor.net"     (1H13F)

... Notes below are from previous meeting(s), and will be updated as this meeting progresses.     (1H13G)

  • OOR: sandbox, devbox, socop-instance status update     (1H13H)
    • <oor-04.cim3.net> is up (still on CANTOR) and accessible as: http://socop.oor.net     (1H13H2)
    • Peter: WITTGENSTEIN is now up, running [[CentOS]] 6.2, now testing/debugging KVM-based virtualization     (1H13H3)
    • since we are running multiple instances, we need some means to differentiate, e.g. color scheme for instant recognition of the different instances; clearly identifying software revision level; differentiating support questions from the sandbox, socop, or dev instance. ... [for discussion at the next Mar-6 call - Michael Grüninger will take a lead on this!]     (1H13H4)
      • probably time to start discussing metadata for "ontology repositories" (not just for "ontologies") ... we would need this to support federation, presumably! [to be discussed on the next team meeting (Mar-6)!]     (1H13H4A)
  • planning and coordination on upcoming OOR events     (1H13I)
    • Mar-6 team meeting     (1H13I1)
    • re-scheduling metadata (VI?) session: with Mike Bennett on financial metadata - some time in Mar-2012 (say, Mar-13) - [MichaelGruninger]     (1H13I2)
    • OOR Architecture & API Workshop-XII now scheduled for (Mar-20) - Ken & Todd     (1H13I3)
    • next Content workshop ...?     (1H13I4)
    • ... lining up more?     (1H13I5)
    • re-scheduling Joint IAOA-OOR-Ontolog "Ontologies and Standards" mini-series session-3: on "ISO/IEC 24707 Common Logic and IKL" [MichaelGruninger & JohnBateman] ... will discuss off-line and revert (as OntoIOp is also meeting every other week now)     (1H13I6)
  • Getting us to a stage when we can run a OOR-production box ... (item skipped; discussion deferred)     (1H13J)

5. Funding progress:     (1H13K)
