- Candidates: (see mailing list thread - http://interop.cim3.net/forum//ontology-summit-org/2007-02/msg00051.html)
- getting the community-specific discussions going:
- previous discussion:
- see (communities enumerated): http://ontolog.cim3.net/cgi-bin/wiki.pl?OntologySummit2007_DefinitionsOfOntology#nidTIS
- and (champions we have in mind): http://ontolog.cim3.net/cgi-bin/wiki.pl?OntologySummit2007/OrganizingCommitteeMeeting_2007_01_30#nidSZQ
- action: ...
- Ivan: consider asking people to identify what community they belong to
- Nicola: we catalog, and map out the framework
- Peter: ask various communities to put together a glossary of their ontology (or ontology-related) vocabulary
- Steve / Nicola: ask various community representative to where they think they fit in
- try getting Tom Gruber to present his view some time soon, that is going to help
- (proposed by Peter P. Yim on 2007.02.15): The overall Summit Process and the 6-steps to achieve our objectives - see: http://ontolog.cim3.net/cgi-bin/wiki.pl?ConferenceCall_2007_02_15#nidU8H
- previous discussion:
- leveraging our wiki editors
- volunteers: Charles Turnitsa, Kurt Conrad, Ken Baclawski, Bob Smith
- deliberating on 'the framework' ... and getting it adopted
4. Outstanding Issues:
- Completed Task Report:
- had a very useful session with some of the summit conveners at the 2007.02.15 Ontolog conference call - see: http://ontolog.cim3.net/cgi-bin/wiki.pl?ConferenceCall_2007_02_15#nidU8A
- Outstanding Issue Update:
- pending responses
- organizing committee / keynote: Dieter Fensel, TimBernersLee
- conveners: Chiara F, Thomas B (pending - ref: "key participant" role confirmation); Patrick Gannon (need to review with OASIS staff)
- organizing committee structure, protocol and distribution of work load
- pending responses
5. New Issues / Discussions / Insight:
- review and adopt iteration-2 of the Ontology Summit 2007 survey questions
- Mark Musen: within the biomedical communities, there are those who object to standardization, even in syntax
- Peter P. Yim / Leo Obrst: we only want to characterize the space and capture the attributes from the vantage point of each constituency
- Mark Musen: given the objective of this summit, it is important that we engage the folsonomists (web 2.0 people)
- Mark Musen: we should be very clear to people from different constituencies that they will all have a say coming to the table;
- more specifically, the framework should compare, for example, (so that we are recognizing the differentiation and merits of each constituency):
- 'how formal things are' (Mark), as well as
- 'how easily their "ontology" methods can be adopted' (Mark) or,
- say, even 'estimated size of a specific community' (Peter)
- more specifically, the framework should compare, for example, (so that we are recognizing the differentiation and merits of each constituency):
- ... (insert yours here)
6. Any Other Business:
- drafting the communique
- soliciting "co-sponsorship"
- Public Relations & The Press
7. Schedule Next Meeting & Adjourn:
- ALL: we will continue the discussion of today's agenda items on the [ontology-summit-org] list
- Next Meeting: unless otherwise re-scheduled (which we likely will) our next meeting will be a 30-minute conference call starting at Tue 27-Feb-2007 8:30am PST / 11:30am EST / 5:30pm CET. (ref: world clock)
- Chris Welty: I have a telecon every Tuesday 11-12:30 ET that I can't miss/
- Tom Gruber: can't make this time on Tuesdays
- Peter P. Yim: I won't be able to make the next call (Feb-27) ... will be traveling in Washington DC Area ... will be engaged in full-day workshop (CEW#58) at NSF on Feb-27
- Call adjourned at: 9:12 am PST
