Philip Bryan

Phil is an independent consultant who delivers architecture services to UK Industry and Commerce. After graduating in Physics, in 1980 he joined Kodak as a manufacturing technologist, where in 1986 he moved into information systems development as a Systems Analyst. For reasons of professional development, in 1988 he joined the BCS and the BCS Data Management group, as well as gaining employment with LBMS as an SSADM Practitioner.

In 1990 Phil formed Lidcast Data Limited and started trading as an independent consultant. In this role he has led architecture teams in major change programmes for the UK Energy Industry and Government, including the £11bn roll-out of Smart Meters in Great Britain. His role has evolved as Systems Architecture has become more widely accepted, embracing Information Architecture, Solution Architecture, Data Architecture and Enterprise Architecture where his skills are formally recognised in UML, TOGAF and BCS Practitioner Certificates.

During his earlier client engagements Phil developed data models, and DB2, SQL Server and Oracle relational database schemas. More recently he has developed models and meta-models within Architecture Repositories, and he maintains an interest in the confluence of related academic research, technology, industry, commerce, and government. He is currently (2021) interested in growing his knowledge of Graphs, KB, EDA, RDF, OWL, Protégé, and of course, Ontology, which he hopes to use to the benefit of the Energy Industry and Net Zero.
