  • organizing committee structure and protocol - distributing the workload
  • getting organized to get dialogs from representatives of other constituencies (other than formal ontologists) going - review/add/comment on list of people who could represent various constituencies and contribute to providing their input and perspectives
  • getting organized to summarize/synthesize the mailing list discussions on the wiki - devoting part of the 15-Feb-2007 Ontolog weekly call to do it with Summit conveners
  • ... (please post here; indentify yourself for follow-up purposes)

Agenda & Proceedings

... (Agenda Coming ... what's captured here is mainly from last week)

1. Meeting called to order:

2. Roll Call:

3. Urgent Issues:

  • Discussion:
    • What could ensure us that we are bringing "value" to the community-at-large (or even the world-at-large), with this "Ontology Summit 2007" endeavor? How do we keep conveners engaged?

4. Outstanding Issues:

  • Completed Task Report:
    • the survey is now out - ref: http://ontolog.cim3.net/forum/ontology-summit/2007-03/msg00040.html
    • Peter will ping the various community champions for their survey response, and to solicit their help to synthesize and elaborate on the input representing their constituencies
    • survey responses close on 25-Mar-2007 (or shortly thereafter). We will then:
      • post the raw collected data (with organizations, e-mail addresses, phone numbers and expertise self-assessment removed) for the conveners to view, discussion and make suggestions
      • we will analyse and synthesize the collected data (KenBaclawski has volunteered to work with Peter P. Yim on this, so far)
  • Outstanding Issue Update:
    • Leo Obrst and Michael Grüninger will drive the "framework" (dimensions, typology, ...)
    • Chris Welty & Tom Gruber to drive the categorization
    • Olivier Bodenreider & Frank Olken will drive the communique
    • ALL: please do all internal exchanges and discussions over the [ontology-summit-org] list (so everyone else is posted, as all these task are so interrelated)
    • ALL: we'll try to engage all conveners in the process by using the [ontology-summit] list (this will help the adoption of the proposed farmework, categorization & communique eventually, which we will need)
      • we need to try to come to conclusions (or at least very close to it) even BEFORE the face-to-face
  • outstanding - (not discussed at this call)
    • organizing committee structure and protocol
    • pending responses
      • organizing committee / keynote: Dieter Fensel, TimBernersLee
      • conveners: Chiara F, Thomas B (pending - ref: "key participant" role confirmation)
    • Public Relations & The Press - Steve taking this on
      • Steve already working on a pre-event press release; hopefully one or two articles out before the F2F
  • Reviewed:
    • scheduling and programming for the Apr. 23 & 24, 2007 face-to-face meetings and symposium
      • Monday am: "The Framework" (Agreeing to the final picture) - Co-chairs: Leo Obrst / Michael Grüninger

        • Panel: ... (tbd)
          • ... we'll try to feature people who can represent the different perspectives of the various constituencies
          • also: a diverse representation (geographically)
          • and, most importantly, by merit ... based on quality and substantive contribution in the virtual discourse and synthesis phase.
      • travel funding - checking MITRE, NSF (for speaker travel)?
