Ontolog Forum

Abdelrhman Rayis

I am a PhD candidate at Keele University in the United Kingdom. My research lies at the intersection of knowledge representation, ontology engineering, and geospatial data science. I focus on designing ontology-driven systems to support intelligent decision-making, particularly within smart city environments.

My current work explores how ontologies can be integrated with microservices and AI techniques to enable semantic interoperability across heterogeneous data sources, including IoT and geospatial data. I have co-authored research on ontology-driven geospatial data fusion, and I am currently developing frameworks for semantic enrichment and geovisualisation, including a Microservice Composition Language (MCL) to support declarative interface design.

More broadly, I am interested in advancing neural-symbolic AI by combining formal ontologies with machine learning systems, as well as improving the usability and accessibility of ontology-based systems for real-world applications. My long-term goal is to contribute to building intelligent, explainable, and interoperable systems that can support complex societal challenges, particularly in sustainability and digital transformation.
