I am currently studying the application of ontologies to agricultural data systems-- specifically, their use as a means to integrate and standardize data sets. I am also strongly interested in exploring ontologies for automated reasoning over unstructured bioinformatics data. Furthermore, I am developing a technique for data-driven ontology evaluation by assessing the semantic distance/annotation gap between a data variable and its definition (as defined by the metadata provided by stakeholders) and a formal ontological class. I am interested in joining the Ontolog forum to talk about ontology evaluation techniques and keep up to date with current ontology research. Additionally, I am looking to network for obtaining a PhD, and wanted a community of practice to discuss project ideas.
