Associate Professor  
Giancarlo Guizzardi is a Full Professor of Software Science and Evolution as well as Chair and Department Head of Semantics, Cybersecurity & Services (SCS) at the University of Twente, The Netherlands. He is currently also an Affiliated/Guest Professor at the Department of Computer and Systems Sciences (DSV) at Stockholm University, in Sweden, and a Guest Professor of the Technical University of Vienna, Austria. He has been active for nearly three decades in the areas of Formal and Applied Ontology, Conceptual Modeling, Enterprise Computing and Information Systems Engineering, working with a multidisciplinary approach in Computer Science that aggregates results from Philosophy, Cognitive Science, Logics and Linguistics. He is the main contributor to the Unified Foundational Ontology (UFO) and to the OntoUML modeling language. Over the years, he has delivered keynote speeches in several key international conferences in these fields (e.g., ER, CAiSE, BPM, IEEE ICSC). He is currently an associate editor of a number of journals including Applied Ontology and Data & Knowledge Engineering, a co-editor of the Lecture Notes in Business Information Processing series, and a member of several international journal editorial boards. He is currently the Chair of the Steering Committee of the International Conference on Conceptual Modeling (ER), a member of the Steering Committees of CAiSE, EDOC, and IEEE CBI, and a member of the Advisory Board of the International Association for Ontology and its Applications (IAOA). '''Giancarlo  Guizzardi'''  obtained  a  PhD  degree  (with  the  highest  distinction) from  the   University of Twente, in The Netherlands with a thesis entitled "Ontological Foundations for Structural Conceptual Models". Since 2003 he has been a Visiting  Scientist,  Research Collaborator and Associated Researcher at the Laboratory for Applied Ontology (LOA), Institute for Cognitive Science and Technology (ISTC), in Trento, Italy. He is currently an Associate Professor at the Computer Science Department at the Federal  University of Espírito Santo, in Vitória, Brazil, where he leads the Ontology and  Conceptual   Modeling Research Group (NEMO). He was a Program Committee co-chair of the 14th IEEE International Conference on Enterprise Computing (EDOC) and is currently the Program Committee co-chair of the 8th International  Conference on Formal Ontology in Information Systems (FOIS). He is an editorial board member of journals such as the Applied Ontology, the Semantic Web Journal, and the International Journal of Information Systems Modeling and Design (IJISMD). He has 15 years of experience with Conceptual Modeling and Ontology Engineering, both in academia and in industrial projects, in areas such as digital journalism and media content management, telecommunications, petroleum and gas, among others. Finally, he is a member of the executive council of the International Association for Ontologies and Applications (IAOA) and a co-chair of the IAOA SIG on Ontology and Conceptual Modeling.
