This is our 7th OOR-dev workshop, which is devoted to the topic of how we should be organized to getting real OOR-related open source software development work going. Specifically, we shall use this session to compare notes on the initial experience of various sub-team trying to make a first attempt on adding code to the existing BioPortal codebase.

Agenda & Proceedings

Archives:

1. Meeting called to order:

2. Roll Call:

  • welcome and intro of new member(s) (if applicable)

3. Status Review and Discussion:

4. Key items for review and discussion today

  • Michael Grüninger: [announce] the Bremen group's plan to use a set of student projects to implement some OOR functionality
    • TillMossakowski's course - students doing some rapid prototype ... they are starting a google-doc on this (which they will share with us soon) ... note that this is independent of the OntoIOp work.
    • OntoIOp project will look towards working with OOR as discussed in this ISO WG's recent (2012.02.23) Berlin meeting.
  • comparing notes on the first attempts to add code/tab to the BioPortal codebase
    • Ken Baclawski - have created a "new page", not a "new tab" yet (as that requires some image editing work, which Ken doesn't have the tools or experience for)
      • see: http://oor-03.cim3.net/ - within the "Find an ontology" box - see: "Browse Ontologies > Experiment"
      • Ken: this is a bottleneck for anyone to put up a new tab [Ken will make a suggestion to the NCBO folks]
  • Getting us to a stage when we can run a OOR-production box
  • planning and coordination on upcoming OOR events
  • ... (for this or next call) discussion: justifying "oor.net"

... Notes below are from previous meeting(s), and will be updated as this meeting progresses.

  • OOR: sandbox, devbox, socop-instance status update
    • ref. http://oor-03.cim3.net is the current OOR_SandBox
    • <oor-04.cim3.net> is up (still on CANTOR) and accessible as: http://socop.oor.net
    • Peter: WITTGENSTEIN is now up, running [[CentOS]] 6.2, now testing/debugging KVM-based virtualization
    • since we are running multiple instances, we need some means to differentiate, e.g. color scheme for instant recognition of the different instances; clearly identifying software revision level; differentiating support questions from the sandbox, socop, or dev instance. ... [for discussion at the next Mar-6 call - Michael Grüninger will take a lead on this!]
      • probably time to start discussing metadata for "ontology repositories" (not just for "ontologies") ... we would need this to support federation, presumably! [to be discussed on the next team meeting (Mar-6)!]
  • planning and coordination on upcoming OOR events
    • Mar-6 team meeting
    • re-scheduling metadata (VI?) session: with Mike Bennett on financial metadata - some time in Mar-2012 (say, Mar-13) - [MichaelGruninger]
    • OOR Architecture & API Workshop-XII now scheduled for (Mar-20) - Ken & Todd
    • next Content workshop ...?
    • ... lining up more?
    • re-scheduling Joint IAOA-OOR-Ontolog "Ontologies and Standards" mini-series session-3: on "ISO/IEC 24707 Common Logic and IKL" [MichaelGruninger & JohnBateman] ... will discuss off-line and revert (as OntoIOp is also meeting every other week now)
  • Getting us to a stage when we can run a OOR-production box ... (item skipped; discussion deferred)
