Topic: '''OOR Metadata Workshop-VI: Metadata for Financial Ontologies'''
This is a regular OOR Team meeting. ... ''please refer also to proceedings from the last team meeting at [[OOR/ConferenceCall_2012_02_07]]''

Session Chair: '''Professor MichaelGruninger''' (University of Toronto)
'''''Attention!''''' ... Please note start-time of the meeting, timing this couple of weeks is fairly tricky (especially for non-US participants) - as North America has just gone into daylight saving time, Europe hasn't, and a lot of Asian countries don't do daylight saving at all!

Panelists:

* '''Mr. MikeBennett''' (EDM Council; Hypercube) - "Metadata for the Financial Industry Business Ontology (FIBO)"
* '''Mr. DavidNewman''' (Wells Fargo Bank) - "Ontology walk-thru & demo"

[08:53] [[DavidEddy|David Eddy]]: Mike's slides are only at <nowiki>[[GoToMeeting]]</nowiki>? (which I can't get too)

[08:54] [[PeterYim|Peter P. Yim]]: @David - you can download the slides from http://ontolog.cim3.net/cgi-bin/wiki.pl?OOR/ConferenceCall_2012_03_06#nid35ZW ... and run the slides from your own desktop, the speaker will prompt everyone to advance as required

[08:55] [[DavidEddy|David Eddy]]: Thnx!

[09:09] [[PeterYim|Peter P. Yim]]: Mike Bennett: (slide #15) FIBIM = ISO TC68/SC4/WG11 N12 v 3.2

[09:14] [[LeoObrst|Leo Obrst]]: @MikeBennett: can you describe your "archetypes"? The health record community has "archetypes" of a sort. In addition, the UML world has "prototypes". Are all these related?

[09:20] [[MikeBennett|Mike Bennett]]: @Leo our concept of an Archetype is just like a stereotype except that it is also a model element. It represents the ultimate abstraction of each class of "Thing", for example if all securities and derivatives are a Contract, what is the simplest kind of thing that is a Contract, and what are all the facts which necessarily and always apply to all Contracts? The element so defined is the archetype of Contract, and is also the ancestor of all classes of Thing which are themselves Contracts. Its necessary facts are inherited and/or specialized/extended by the classes of thing which are below this in the taxonomic hierarchy.

[09:20] [[MikeBennett|Mike Bennett]]: @Leo in short, we called it Archetype because this was pretty much in line with the dictionary definition of that word, and so without reference to other, possibly technical uses of that word.

[09:15] [[DavidEddy|David Eddy]]: DavidNewman's slides are where?

[09:16] [[MikeBennett|Mike Bennett]]: @DavidEddy [[DavidNewman|David Newman]] has not prepared slides. If you go to the <nowiki>[[GoToMeeting]]</nowiki> you can see what he has on screen. I believe some views form this will be uploaded after this session.

[09:17] [[DavidEddy|David Eddy]]: @MikeBennett: thnx... can't get to <nowiki>[[GoToMeeting]]</nowiki>.

[09:23] [[MikeBennett|Mike Bennett]]: I'm sorry to say that the <nowiki>[[GoToMeeting]]</nowiki> session has reached its capacity of 16 attendees.

[09:24] [[MikeBennett|Mike Bennett]]: Now showing the Protege screen with annotation metadata examples

[09:25] [[PeterYim|Peter P. Yim]]: @DavidEddy and All - I have the <nowiki>[[GoToMeeting]]</nowiki> session displayed on the VNC screen now ... so, if you can get to VNC you might still catch it there

[09:26] [[DavidEddy|David Eddy]]: @PeterYim: don't see it... will wait for slides

[09:27] [[MikeBennett|Mike Bennett]]: It is displaying on the VNC screen, I can see it from here.

[09:28] [[DavidEddy|David Eddy]]: @MikeBennett - evidently I don't know where VNC is

[09:30] [[MikeBennett|Mike Bennett]]: @DavidEddy - when you right click on the link on the session page, open in new tab or window, you get a login - type 'ontolog' - if you did that, the VNC starts as a separate application which may be lurking on your task bar.

[09:29] [[ToddSchneider|Todd Schneider]]: [[DavidNewman|David Newman]], could you explain what you mean by 'navigate'?

[09:33] [[PeterYim|Peter P. Yim]]: == [[MichaelGruninger|Michael Grüninger]] moderating discussion ...

[09:33] [[MikeBennett|Mike Bennett]]: Also since [[ElisaKendall|Elisa Kendall]] is here maybe we can hear a bit on the OMG's vision for element level metadata

[09:40] [[PeterYim|Peter P. Yim]]: @Elisa - can you share your "metadata spreadsheet"? ... (is this slide#6 on Mike's slide deck?)

[09:40] [[ElisaKendall|Elisa Kendall]]: What I have hasn't been approved for release from OMG, but you can take Mike's slide as a partial view of it

[09:46] [[MikeBennett|Mike Bennett]]: My slide 6 shows only a small extract of the OMG AB Recommendations spreadsheet.

[09:41] [[PeterYim|Peter P. Yim]]: Thank you for the response, Elisa ... would look forward to looking at it when it is released; please let us know.

[09:45] [[DavidEddy|David Eddy]]: @MikeBennett - I suspect this is a platform issue. I'm on legacy Mac & do not (yet) have Java v1.6.

[09:52] [[ErnaniSantos|Ernani Santos]]: Sorry, but I have to go. Thanks for this good session. Bye.

[09:54] [[MikeBennett|Mike Bennett]]: Use Cases: We are also looking at model-specific use cases such as making references to regulatory requirements for financial industry concepts

Agenda & Proceedings

Archives:

1. Meeting called to order:

  • Mike Dean takes the chair and welcome everyone
  • review and adopt agenda
  • Peter P. Yim volunteered to take notes

2. Roll Call:

  • welcome and intro of new member(s) (if applicable)

3. Status Review and Discussion:

4. Key items for review and discussion today

  • doing something at OntologySummit2012
    • OOR presentation? [Todd]

in many of the summit presentations to date is infrastructure. OOR being part of said infrastructure (as will be represented in the communique) will be included.

  • Member activities updates - see below
    • mostly covered above already
  • action planning for "content drive" (getting people to upload ontologies)
  • Getting us to a stage when we can run a OOR-production box
    • [action] Ken will continue to work on implementing "gatekeeping" (and get back with an ETA) so we can move from "sandbox" to "production"

... Notes below are from previous meeting(s), and will be updated as this meeting progresses.

  • planning and coordination on upcoming OOR events
  • Getting us to a stage when we can run a OOR-production box ...(we will skip this stock agenda item at today's call.)
  • action planning for facilitating code contribution (organizing ourselves so various sub-teams can actually get to work on coding) ...(we will skip this stock agenda item at today's call.)
  • action planning for "soliciting" content (getting people to upload ontologies) ...(we will skip this stock agenda item at today's call.)
  • Getting us to a stage when members can contribute code ... how, ETA?
    • (discussion 2011.05.06):
      • an adopted Architecture & API is definitely crucial, but that's not all
    • All team members are encouraged to mull over how we can get to that state effectively
      • in particular ... how do we make this a "successful" community-driven, open source project!?
    • (discussion 2011.06.03) ...
  • code development on an Eclipse IDE for all?
  • Code repository - considering "git" or github?
  • Getting us to a stage when we can run a OOR-production box ... what's still needed, ETA?
