  • review/recap on the OOR-NSF-07601 preliminary proposal - ref. OpenOntologyRepository_Proposal/Nsf_07601
    • Ken: prelim proposal writing completed, now under review by NEU/DSPA and is expected to be submitted on/before the deadline date
    • confirming the working list and "quiet" wiki workspace subscriptions
    • shared understanding on how to get a new participant involved and onto the team
      • participation is limited to oor community members (others interested should first join the oor team and be active)
      • to go into a joint proposal is a partnership among the participants ... it takes the right chemistry, a complementary set of skills, resources and things each can bring to the table, etc. ... and therefore, is not an automatic or open-to-all situation
      • as for nsf07601 - (unless otherwise revised, which probably would happen when the team is better organized) further acceptance onto the team should be a joint decision by the existing team members
      • for nsf08575 - let's start from the original nsf funding OOR proposal team of: Ken Baclawski (NEU), Bruce Bargmeyer (LBL), Mike Dean (BBN), Katherine Goodier (NCI), Leo Obrst (MITRE), Michelle Raymond (Honeywell) & Peter P. Yim (CIM3) (ref. http://ontolog.cim3.net/forum/oor-forum/2008-10/msg00005.html )
    • Ken, given that its always low probability to get awarded, let's consider making more proposals
      • for example: NSF 08-575 large due Nov-28 small due Dec-17 - this is science, not infrastructure; a real proposal too, and not just a prelim proposal
      • Ken & K to continue to lead our next effort to do the proposal for a NSF 08-575 large proposal
        • actual deadline end-of-day Nov-19 (needs to go into NEU/DSPA for review)
        • since this is a full proposal, we will need full work descriptions from everyone, and budgets too (both of which weren't needed before)
        • Peter and K will set up the work environment to support this proposal project
          • the [oor-nsf08575] archived mailing list and webdav server space will be the persistent workspace and archives for the work on this project
          • the password protected wiki on pbwiki that K will be setting will be used as a dynamic workspace during the preparation process
      • Michelle: possibility of Honeywell joining in ... we'll set a deadline of Tue Nov-11 as the point to decide whether they are in or out
        • Michelle: NDA needed by Honeywell ... anyhow, all "confidential" material should ONLY go to Ken, as far as our project is concerned.
        • Peter: please make sure Honeywell is comfortable with our "open" IPR policy
  • news from ISWC-2008
    • conference program - see: http://iswc2008.semanticweb.org/program/schedule/
    • Mike Dean and Peter P. Yim is planning to give a "lightning-talk" on OOR at ISWC-2008 (Karlsruhe, 2008.10.30) - slide
    • Peter also gave a lightning "Intro to Ontolog" talk before that - slide
    • Highlights:
      • Stefan Decker's talk about the "semantic web" initiative not getting a convincing enough message together properly yet
      • Semantic Web Challenge and Billion Triples Challenges - with great entries and prizes
      • note also a VOCAMP (http://vocamp.org/wiki) effort, for domain people to come together to build their vocabulary (ontology?), that Peter Mika is pushing ... would be great to team up with him on that
  • OOR-Ontolog panel series planning and update
    • Paul Buitelaar will be putting together a European panel of those engaging in ontology repository and related work in Europe on Thu 2008.12.04 - please mark your calendars and come join
  • OOR-related-project status updates:
  • short term activity and action plans
    • Peter: a few strategic initiatives for Ontolog to be discussed at next Thursday's (Nov-13) planning call - please mark your calendars and come join
  • rebuilding momentum on the OOR project
    • looks like that is coming along!
