:: session co-chairs will make the call on how they will be running their session. Please make sure your speakers/panelists are in communication with you (and knows that they are "on"!)
3. Issues to be covered today:

* finalize on the speaker invitations for the 4/23 & 24 F2F sessions and get the invitations out
* Thanks to ALL for the contribution to a very successful Ontology Summit 2007
** Peter: how about sending out a blank invitation for 'conveners' to speak (requesting submission of title, abstract on/before Fri 4/20 and then slides on/before Fri 4/27, if accepted to present.)
*** Peter: suggested criteria - (i) have contributed to the forum discourse (with at least 3 posts), or (ii) have submitted their survey response, or (iii) member of the organizing committee, or (iv) invited by a member of the organizing committee.
*** Steve / Leo: open invitation is good; we need to have a process to make sure we have a good flow on our workshop program. Could have people on a panel too (not just a formal presentation)
*** Steve will send this out to [ontology-summit], organizing commmittee members can forward this
** finalize symposium chair/co-chair & program/agenda - see above

* discuss the processing of the OntologySummit2007_Survey and forum discussion inputs, and to coordinate on the preparation for the Apr-23 & 24 Summit face-to-face workshops.
* do a postmortem and follow-up on the F2F meetings, and the overall summit
** Peter: devoting part of the 12-Apr-2007 Ontolog weekly call to do it with Summit conveners. Please come, if possible.
* deliberate if we want to do a "next version" of the communique
* tie up all loose-ends

* Discussion:
* (a) a F2F meetings & (b) overall Summit postmortem,
** What could ensure us that we are bringing "value" to the community-at-large (or even the world-at-large), with this "Ontology Summit 2007" endeavor?
** what went well:
*** Steve: focus on the deliverables - and what will 'last' (even after all the discussions and the meetings) - that, possibly, could be the 'framework' that everyone could use in the future
*** the summit has been co-sponsored by 49 institutions -- which included some of the most prestigious organizations in the broader domain
*** about 400 messages were exchanged on the ontology-summit forum since the 1/18/2007 Ontology Summit 2007 Launch (another ~1200 messages were exchanged on ontolog-forum between Jan~Apr'07) -- totally unprecedented level of activities
*** 52 people responded to the OntologySummit2007_Survey
*** the OntologySummit2007_Communique has been endorsed by ~50 individuals.
** what needs improvement:
*** difficult to get people engaged earlier; not until it was almost the last week before the F2F
*** people kept misunderstanding the objective (and theme) of the Summit
**** reason: some had their own preconceived ideas or agenda for the Summit,
**** the voluminous exchange happening in parallel on [ontolog-forum] (which was mainly on fine points of formal ontologies) didn't help the cause
** what will we do differently next time? ... how? ...
*** getting the strawman out earlier would have helped a lot
*** need to revisit the possibility of branching off a "formal-discussion" only forum (as we move Ontology activities more to the mainstream)

* volunteered/assigned wiki editors
* (c) deliberate on whether we want to initiate an next-version OntologySummit2007_Communique exercise,
** volunteers: Charles Turnitsa, Kurt Conrad, Bob Smith, Ken Baclawski, Doug Holmes, Steve Ray, DeborahMcGuinness, Chris Menzel, Pat Hayes, John F. Sowa, Peter P. Yim ... (need more, hopefully from our community champions), plus F2F session co-chairs
** For doing it:
** Now drafting :
*** multiple request from community
*** Framework: Leo Obrst, Michael Grüninger, DeborahMcGuinness, with Charles Turnitsa summarizing 'dimensions' dialog on the wiki
*** inconsistencies between communique text, diagram & framework slides
**** Leo: status report - Leo, Micchael & Deborah are in touch, a framework draft is being reviewed by the team now; expecting to post it onto the wiki and the forum before the end of this week (the earlier the better).
** Against doing it:
*** Populating the framework - Tom Gruber
*** not the best use of the community's energy
*** Communique - Olivier Bodenreider, Frank Olken
*** too much work (to restart the entire community process) to gain consensus (of 50 or so people, now that they are dispersed)
**** Olivier / Frank: will try to post a draft communique before the next committee call on Apr-17
** Peter's suggestion:
*** Survey data summary, analysis and synthesis - Ken Baclawski, Doug Holmes, Peter P. Yim
*** just clean up typos, formatting and inconsistencies,
**** see work-in-progress at: OntologySummit2007_Survey/ResponseAnalysis
*** point to diagram and framework (slides)
*** Formal Ontologists perspective - Pat Hayes, Chris Menzel, with John F. Sowa as reviewer
*** clean up diagram and slides independently
*** Taxonomists perspective - Denise Bedford, Bob Smith
** Olivier: not uncomfortable with the slight inconsistencies; as the communique should only represent a snapshot of the deliberation upto the end of the Summit meetings
*** Folksonomists perspective - Tom Gruber, et al.
** All: disposition - we'll:
*** clean up typos and formatting;
*** accept the communique as being a rather accurate snapshot of the state-of-affairs at the conclusion of the Summit;
*** solicit further refinement of the diagram and the framework;
*** make available a section/workspace on the wiki to accept people's suggestions and comments to the communique.

* Outstanding Issue Update:
* (d) follow-up actions
** Public Relations & The Press - Steve taking this on
** Peter to post and inform the community of the above disposition
*** Steve already working on a pre-event press release; hopefully one or two articles out before the F2F
*** also invite continued contribution on refining the framework; metrics and measures for the framework dimensions, and the OntologyDistinctions page that Tom Gruber started off (ref.: http://ontolog.cim3.net/forum/ontolog-forum/2007-04/msg00185.html), etc.
** co-sponsor call
** Leo to ping Nicola to see how receptive he is to publish a report on Ontology Summit 2007 (similar to the UpperOntologySummit last year) on the "Applied Ontology" Journal.
*** Peter: will do one more round of calls, especially to 'co-sponsors' from last year's UpperOntologySummit and to all 'conveners' this year - done!
*** if so, we'll solicit someone to take the lead to champion the write-up. This person will be lead author (like what Leo Obrst did last year), who will also invite others (who were actively involved in putting together this year's Summit) as co-authors for the report.
*** "co-sponsorship" - those who confirmed via the survey has been updated to the wiki already.
*** candidate champions: Michael Grüninger, DeborahMcGuinness & Frank Olken, ...
** communique endorsement call
** Olivier: another thing that would be worth doing is for someone (or some team) to work up an academic paper that encapsulates the idea of the framework, dimentsions and metrices for Ontologies, and then submit it for publication in the "Applied Ontology" journal. Anyone?
*** Peter: this part was messed up in the survey. I'll make a post to the forum to straighten it out before the F2F. - done!

* Action Items:
* (e) tying up any loose ends.
** Deborah, Leo & Michael to get in touch and start drafting the "framework" - in progress, along with Tom & Pat Hayes
** Peter to postprocess the NIST audio files, and post them
** Olivier & Frank are in touch now and will get started on drafting the "communique"
** start a space to collect news articles and blogs written about the Summit
** Peter to roll up the survey database and send it to Ken Baclawski for analysis,; also post it (for open access) so that the session co-chairs sice-and-dice the collected data and make use of them too - done, long with KenBaclawski!
*** Peter: done! see: http://ontolog.cim3.net/cgi-bin/wiki.pl?OntologySummit2007#nid10XC
*** note that we'll be devoting part of this Thursday's (17-Apr-2007) Ontolog weekly call to do a final sync-up  for the Apr-23 & 24 Summit face-to-face workshops. (see: ConferenceCall_2007_04_19) ... come if you can.
** Peter to make a post to [ontology-summit] to ask everyone involved to come join us on Thursday if they can.
