Terrance Marthinus is an IT staff member with 15 years of experience at Cape Peninsula University of Technology in South Africa. He obtained his BTech degree in IT in 2017 and is pursuing his Master's in MICT at this institution. His research interests lie in ontology engineering, specifically in the area of gait-related diseases. He recently wrote a paper titled "On Domain Ontology for Decision Support in the Treatment of Gait-related Diseases," published by IEEE at the 2021 21st International Conference on Computational Science and Its Applications (ICCSA), which can be accessed at the following link: https://ieeexplore.ieee.org/document/9732371. The paper presents an ontology that provides decision support for the treatment of gait-related diseases based on a formal representation of knowledge in the domain.

Terrance has taken his research a step further and developed the Gait Analysis Domain Ontology (GADO) based on the paper he wrote. He is currently writing his thesis, "Development of a Domain Ontology for Decision Support in the Treatment of Gait-related Diseases". The thesis expands on his work and provides an in-depth analysis of the GADO, demonstrating how it can be used to improve decision-making in the treatment of gait-related diseases. Terrance's research is an exciting development in the field of ontology engineering and has the potential to make a significant impact on the treatment of gait-related diseases.

=Alessandro Mosca=
I am currently Assistant Professor at the Computer Science Faculty of the Free University of Bozen-Bolzano, and I'm a member of the KRDB Research Centre (https://www.inf.unibz.it/krdb/) and of the Smart Data Factory (https://smart.inf.unibz.it/en/), the technology transfer lab of the faculty.

My research activity focuses on knowledge representation and conceptual modelling for data management.
I'm interested in the theoretical and methodological aspects behind the creation of ontology-based data management solutions. Multi-format data integration and access, efficient ontology-based query answering, formal semantics of conceptual modelling languages, temporal and multidimensional data representation, SPARQL querying support systems, data exploration techniques for non-technical users are among the topics I work on.

I contributed to the design of applications that are fed by (open and legacy) data in the so-called Research and Innovation ecosystem (chrome-extension://efaidnbmnnnibpcajpcglclefindmkaj/http://www.inf.unibz.it/~almosca/papers/JOWO-2017_AM.pdf). The Open Data platform called UNiCS (https://unics.cloud/) is probably the most evident result of my attempt to apply the ontology-based approach for semantic data integration in this scenario. The Toscana Open Research, Regional Research and Innovation Observatory (https://www.toscanaopenresearch.it/en/) is another living example along the same line.

My research career has been always characterised by a strong degree of interdisciplinarity: I like to build linguistic and conceptual bridges between different disciplines. This attitude gave me the opportunity to directly work with domain knowledge corpora by chemical engineers (chrome-extension://efaidnbmnnnibpcajpcglclefindmkaj/http://www.inf.unibz.it/~almosca/papers/ban_mos_pal_ModelBasedCompoundFormulation_PROOFvERSION.pdf), Roman Empire historians (chrome-extension://efaidnbmnnnibpcajpcglclefindmkaj/http://www.inf.unibz.it/~almosca/papers/calv-etal-EAAI-2016.pdf), policy makers (chrome-extension://efaidnbmnnnibpcajpcglclefindmkaj/https://ceur-ws.org/Vol-2050/DAO_paper_4.pdf), mechanical artefact designers (chrome-extension://efaidnbmnnnibpcajpcglclefindmkaj/http://www.inf.unibz.it/~almosca/papers/colombo2007.pdf), among others. The idea of using the principles and technologies of Knowledge Representation to allow the cross-domain interchange of meanings is surely one of the most relevant driving engine of my research activity.

I'm a member of the Editorial Board of the Applied Ontology journal, and since 2015 I contribute to the organisation of the Semantic Web and Ontology Design for Cultural Heritage (SWODCH), a scientific event that, year after year has witnessed the growth around it of a robust and nowadays consolidated community of both theoreticians and practitioners.
Andrew gained a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science from Utah State University. He is thinking through candidate theses for graduate school, with the constraint of alignment with his guiding principles.

He enjoys quietly acquiring knowledge and addressing hard problems. He is at present reading through the book 'Epistemology and Metaphysics for Qualitative Research' by Tomas Pernecky.
His interest in ontology is derived in part from the efficiency gain of such abstraction-making in reasoning within the context of knowledge representation and reasoning.

Samuel is eager to learn from the experience of others in the development of ontological and semantic technology. He also hopes to gain insights which will serve for studying such problems from the perspective of mathematical database theory. In particular, the difficulties of implementing interoperability with standard technologies have drawn his attention to two key operational needs: data integration and schema evolution.
MatthewWesthttps://ontologforum.com/index.php?title=AndreaBernardini&diff=4304AndreaBernardini2023-01-25T09:23:30Z
MatthewWest: Created page with "=Andrea Bernardini= I am a researcher from a research institute in Italy (Fondazione Ugo Bordoni). Greg Lettow is a cloud architect currently working at Torch.ai, a startup located in Leawood, Kansas, USA. Prior to joining Torch, Greg has worked with the US Federal Reserve, United States Marine Corp and in the telecom industry. Additionally, For 11 years Greg co-owned an enterprise architecture consulting firm where he worked with a variety of clients from a mobile payment startup to the US Department of Agriculture. Greg has held certifications in TOGAF (The Open Group Architecture Framework), AWS Cloud Architecture, and the Scaled Agile Framework (SAFe). While working with SoftCard, Greg was able to secure a patent related to processing instructions for mobile devices.

For several years, the ideas of how ontologies might coexist with enterprise domain models has been interesting to me, but never really was able to capture my attention until I started my work with Torch.ai. Torch has the mission of making data available, usable, and valuable for its clients and developing that capability around an ontology-based approach. I’ve finally had the time to devote to this topic and am looking forward to learning and sharing with this group.
