5) Communications, logistics, & work protocols issues

  • Start and maintain a list of other lists where Ontolog meeting announcements should be routinely posted. Each entry should have a volunteer as liaison and the emphasis of the list to help select the announcements that are appropriate for cross posting. Peter P. Yim will create the initial page, and Ken Baclawski will populate the page and post a call for volunteers to the forum.
    • Protege
    • Semantic Web
    • Other W3C lists
    • KM (after it is restructured)

6) Follow-ups from previous calls

  • Ken committed (during the 2007.05.03 call) to come up with ideas on how to grab people's attention on upcoming events. We'll discuss his suggestions today (see item 8 below).

7) Current Project Status Report

  • Current Project Status Review:
  • Status CctRepresentation and UblOntology project work. No progress was reported.
  • Status of ProtegeKIF project work. No progress was reported.
  • status of the ONION project startup. No progress was reported.
  • UBL liaison report - skipped
  • SICoP / ONTAC liaison report
  • NCOR liaison report - skipped
  • Planning team report - see item 8c below

8) Key Issues discussion:

  • Discussion: enhancements on the Ontolog Event Announcements
    • see: KenBaclawski's suggested layout of the announcements at: ConferenceCall_2007_05_17/EventAnnouncementSuggestions
    • Peter: to be discussed/considered -
      • mail vs. wiki announcement
        • The wiki format should use a calendar/event format.
        • Each event should be entered by the individual responsible for the event, but there should be a Calendar Master who ensures that the calendar is properly maintained.
      • labeled links vs. WikiWord's
        • This is only relevant for the wiki, not the mail announcement.
      • Thursdays vs. non-Thursdays
        • When an event in the Ontolog Thursday series is on a day other than a Thursday, it should be clearly labeled as an exception. The fact that there are occasional exceptions is not a good reason for changing the title.
      • html vs. plain text mail messages
        • The posting to the announcement list should use the html format for maximum impact. It is not intended to be an archival posting.
        • The posting to the forum list should use the plain text format so that it can be properly indexed by the archiving software.
      • operations & maintenance
  • Follow-up action from Ontology Summit 2007:
    • brought up on 2007.05.03:
      • Leo: will ping Nicola Guarino about doing a journal paper for "Applied Ontology"
      • Olivier: would be nice to do an academic paper ... anyone?
      • Ken: good idea to do a write-up and push it to wikipedia
    • ... more:
      • updating the diagram to make it jive with the communique better
      • more work into the framework and associated metrics
      • a retrospect on the Ontology Summit 2007 group process and dynamics - maybe at SusanTurnbull's CEW#63 on 2007.07.17
    • This follow-up action item should be the main topic for an Ontolog Thursday meeting. The meeting has tentatively been set to occur on 2007.06.07. This should help attract a larger audience.

9) New project proposals. Postponed to 2007.05.24

  • Peter: how about a new mini-series on informal ontology - shared understanding, concept maps, dialog maps, visualization, ...
  • possibilities of a session on collaborative ontology development
