Agenda

  1. Request for funding The IAOA Executive Committee is now considering requests for funding for conferences, workshops and similar venues that further the purposes of the IAOA. This is one possible mechanism for obtaining some funding for the Ontolog Forum.
  2. Scheduling of Ontolog Forum meetings
    1. Gary Berg-Cross has scheduled "Enhanced Semantics for Domain Vocabularies" on 11/10 and 11/17 and already has speaker commitments.
    2. Michael Bergman has been approached on scheduling a session on "Cognonto Empowers Knowledge-based Artificial Intelligence".
    3. Michael Grüninger is not available for running any sessions for this academic year. Other contacts are still pending for someone to run sessions on standards for top level ontologies. The mailing list activity is quite active.
  3. Website analytics
    1. Ken Baclawski has Google Analytics and content management reports.
  4. Other Business
  5. Next Meeting

Analytics Report

Proceedings

[12:50] MikeBennett: Phone Bridge cost is almost the same as GoToMeeting

[12:51] MikeBennett: IAOA also needs e.g. GoToMeeting capability - might be looking at funding for an IAOA account for this, which we would maybe also use?

[12:52] MikeBennett: Conference Call + chat Room is available for free. Limited countries support.

[12:52] MikeBennett: Sharing screen and files remains a separate issue / requirement.

[12:53] MikeBennett: However, the wiki can be used for files.

[12:53] MikeBennett: So we should use that.

[12:53] MikeBennett: Have a fixed URL for every conference call, with a link there to the latest one.

[12:55] MikeBennett: Can we use the wiki also for presentations?

[12:55] MikeBennett: Yes, just upload a PDF to that wiki and people click through from there during sessions.

[12:56] MikeBennett: So do we need a formal proposal for funding?

[12:57] MikeBennett: Wiki is not free (Ken paying)

[12:57] MikeBennett: Phone Bridge:

[12:57] MikeBennett: FreeConferenceCall is free.

[12:57] MikeBennett: Would need to be fired up from the US, countries that are not included can dial in using Skype.

[12:58] MikeBennett: We need a proposal for what Ken is paying for. 2 things:

[12:58] MikeBennett: Digital Ocean and Amazon.

[13:00] MikeBennett: DO is %120 PA

[13:00] MikeBennett: Amazon is a few Dollars a month.

[13:01] MikeBennett: So we will make that request, and get IAOA to take on ownership of those resources at the appropriate time.

[13:02] MikeBennett: Scheduling of meetings

[13:02] MikeBennett: Standards for Top Level Ontologies: John Sowa would be interest in this.

[13:03] MikeBennett: ISO folks very interested in this, will bring up at their next meeting.

[13:03] MikeBennett: We should make this more formal; have a page on the wiki with latest version of proposal and links to relevant emails in this thread on Proposed ISO Standard (pointer into the Ontolog Forum on thaT).

[13:04] MikeBennett: Also pages that summarize the latest updates in a systematic form so we can show what are the open issues, decisions made etc.

[13:04] MikeBennett: Call it: Proposed ISO Standard for TLOs

[13:04] MikeBennett: So a more succinct name than that?

[13:04] MikeBennett: "Top Level Ontologies"

[13:05] MikeBennett: This is the page for debating the issues for the proposed ISO standard + links, summary etc. and link to email thread.

[13:05] MikeBennett: Sessions on this TLO and ISO

[13:06] MikeBennett: How many, when, whether this would be the Summit topic.

[13:06] MikeBennett: Denise Worsal - response to John's note that was cc'd to her. Will be copied to the Forum.

[13:06] MikeBennett: Nov 10 and 17 are taken

[13:07] MikeBennett: Mike Bergman's talk

[13:08] MikeBennett: What is our set of activities for publicising a meeting e.g. 1 week, 2 weeks.

[13:11] MikeBennett: How about Nov 3 for Mike Bergman's talk?

[13:11] MikeBennett: How many sessions do we need for the ISO/TLO sessions?

[13:12] MikeBennett: 24 Nov is Thanksgiving in the US

[13:13] MikeBennett: Remaining sessions are 1, 8 and 15 Dec. But 15 Dec is tentatively the Summit Brainstorming and / or Kick-off / topics decisions. Or both.

[13:13] MikeBennett: John can make Dec 8 but not Dec 15 for TLO

[13:13] MikeBennett: Can also have TLO sessions in Jan.

[13:14] MikeBennett: Would also have more information in Jan.

[13:15] MikeBennett: For the Summit brainstorming, we can suggest the TLO as a possible theme or track.

[13:16] MikeBennett: Dec 1 and Dec 8 - what to cover on those days?

[13:16] MikeBennett: Or move the Summit brainstorming up to Dec 1.

[13:17] MikeBennett: Propose a schedule of meetings and float it with the whole BoT group by email.

[13:17] MikeBennett: 3 Nov: Mike Bergman TBC

[13:17] MikeBennett: 10, 17 Nov Gary

[13:17] MikeBennett: 1 Dec Summit brainstorming

[13:17] MikeBennett: 8 or 15 session to finalize the Summit topic

[13:18] MikeBennett: Jan - session on TLO and ISO unless subsumed by Ontology Summit topic.

[13:19] MikeBennett: Also use the email thread for suggestions.

[13:19] MikeBennett: One thing missing in that thread is the requirements.

[13:19] MikeBennett: Start with that as a beginning topic.

[13:20] MikeBennett: John will do this.

[13:20] MikeBennett: Interoperability (ISO minutes). A complex issue. TLO won't solve the philosophical problems.

[13:22] MikeBennett: (but can maybe at least describe the philosophical issues)

[13:22] MikeBennett: Discussion informally is more valuable for moving those kinds of thing forward.

[13:25] MikeBennett: Next meeting:

[13:28] MikeBennett: December 8

[13:28] MikeBennett: Pressing issues:

[13:28] MikeBennett: Who will run the meetings?

[13:28] MikeBennett: Ken: will run the Summit brainstorming meetings.

[13:28] MikeBennett: Who will chair Mike Bergman's meeting?

[13:28] MikeBennett: Assume Leo.

[13:29] MikeBennett: MB as back-up if Leo can't do it.

[13:29] MikeBennett: MB to create the page. Get Leo to co-champion that.

[13:30] MikeBennett: Ken will chair the next BoT meeting as well.

[13:30] MikeBennett: AOB?
