Proceedings

1. Start with the federation aspects

  • Mike: BBN plans to invest some resources into the OOR project
  • Mike will put some thought into this before the next OOR-team call
  • federating BioPortal & XMDR at the start
  • including thoughts on:
    • ontology life cycle
    • OMV
    • GRDDL

2. Language support:

  • not just for the semantic web
  • OWL and Common Logic would be good starters
  • other modules added as groups get motivated to contribute

3. Infrastructure:

  • Peter to prepare the infrastructure
    • Linux ([[CentOS]])
    • mysql
    • tomcat (java)

4. Engaging participants:

  • have panel sessions again (that seems to have an effective way to engage people)
  • stand up a repository for early adopters
    • caveat: don't put your only copy of the ontology there yet
  • 3 meeting per month - Fridays (starting at our OOR regular time: 9:00am PDT / 12:00pm EDT / 16:00 UTC )
    • one for system and software development
    • one for ontology repository content development
    • one for planning/admin
  • plan one panel session for the BioPortal-XMDR-Software-Infrastructure folks ASAP
    • try for Fri 2008.06.13 or 2008.06.20

0. Appoint chair and scribe; roll call & confirm agenda.

  • Mike chairs, Peter will take notes

1. What will the first phase roll out of OOR be supporting

  • OWL, CL
  • RDF, SKOS, OWL, CL
  • XML, RDF, SKOS, OWL, CL
  • Mike: let people vote with their code
    • RDF/OWL, CL - almost out minimal set
    • XML & SKOS is something we might want to discuss - definitely a valuable addition
    • have uploaded 'prototype' to SemWebCentral ... have added a SKOS placeholder already
  • Mark: working with LexGrid which is dealing with most of the legacy contents in biomedical informatics
    • moving forward SNOMAD folks will move to OWL
    • federating with LexGrid is valuable -- which is what BioPortal is doing
    • offering to have BioPortal offering the components that it is already working on for OOR, allowing OOR to seek funding for other pieces, like CL, federation, ... etc.
    • releasing BioPortal v2.0 on 08-Aug-2008
  • Leo: think EU participation and other related efforts
    • OMV ... Mark, we'll be using an extended version of it
    • LARC & ..?.
  • Mark: note also - FrankHartel's TOP (Terminology Open Portal)
  • CL
    • need Pat in the conversation
    • Reasoner, COE (visualizer), ...
  • XML
    • need Bruce for this conversation
    • other XML regrep folks we want to get involved (now that Farrukh has decided to play a more oberserving role)?

4. Short Term action plan:

  • Mark: Mike and Benjamin should have a conversation - Mark will put them in touch
  • Peter: get BioPortal, CODS and Mike's UI into the (new) cim3 server
  • need to define different roles - have the Use Cases subgroup help

5. Get initial consensus on a date for the "Synergies & Gaps" panel discussion session

  • Mike: try also to have people (current repository operators) describe their webservice interfaces
  • tentative: Fri 2008.08.15 - 2Hr starting 10:00am PDT / 1:00pm EDT (preferred)
  • alternate : Fri 2008.08.08 - 2Hr starting 10:00am PDT / 1:00pm EDT
