Aurona Gerber

Aurona Gerber is an Associate Professor in the Department of Informatics at the University of Pretoria. She completed a bachelors and masters degree in electronic engineering and worked in industry for nearly 15 years before she completed a PhD in Computer Science and Information Systems at the University of South Africa in 2007. She is also affiliated with CAIR, the Center for Artificial Intelligence Research in South Africa.

Her current research interests include advanced conceptual modelling and ontologies, as well as the application and integration of these models in information systems, systems architecture and development, and enterprise architecture and engineering. Some of her recent work included the use of ontologies in systems that assist taxonomy as well as using ontology engineering for the conceptual framework in accounting standards.

Prof Gerber is the current chair of the South African IEEE SMCS Chapter, and she participated in initiation of the international IEEE SMC Enterprise Engineering and Enterprise Architecture Technical Committee, where she acts as co-chair. She is a founding member and at-large director of the South African Chapter of the Association of Information Systems (AISSAC), a council member of the South African Institute for Computer Scientists and Information Technologists, SAICSIT, and a co-founder of the Enterprise Architecture Research Forum (EARF).
